Sunulife explores the self-sufficiency tax: the post-immigration habit of figuring everything out alone, helpful early but later a costly drain on time and attention. It argues that progress comes from treating delegation as a cost-benefit choice, handing execution-heavy tasks to professionals to preserve judgment and focus for meaningful priorities.

Sunulife examines the concept of the self-sufficiency tax—a psychological mechanism in which the habit of figuring everything out alone, developed out of necessity after immigration, eventually becomes a financial and mental burden. While self-reliance is essential during the early stages of rebuilding one’s life, it can later turn into a costly reflex, consuming time and attention that could be used more strategically. Progress requires shifting from doing everything personally to professional delegation, turning what may feel like a question of pride or independence into a straightforward cost-benefit decision. By transferring technical and execution-heavy tasks to competent professionals, individuals preserve their judgment, focus, and mental capacity for more meaningful priorities. Ultimately, the piece encourages people to let go of their loyalty to the struggles that shaped them and embrace greater efficiency, intentional delegation, and smarter management of their most valuable personal resources.
