Sunulife

Sunulife is a bilingual French-English digital media platform dedicated to Senegalese and African diaspora culture. Founded in Canada, the platform publishes editorial content, audio chronicles, music, and video across two main language editions (English and French) through its website sunulife.com and mobile applications for iOS and Android.

Overview

Sunulife covers topics including Senegalese society and identity, mbalax music, African heritage, griots, teranga (the Senegalese philosophy of hospitality), the Wolof language, African fashion, cuisine, and the experiences of the African diaspora worldwide. Its tagline is “From Senegal to the World.”

The platform is structured into four main divisions: Studio (cinema, music, clips, moments, narrated insights and chronicles), Essays (long-form articles on culture, society, and heritage), Lifestyle (journeys, success, and food), and News (tech, Senegal, Africa, and world coverage).

Content

Sunulife publishes in both French and English, with French-language sections including Société, Chroniques, Décryptage, Réussite, Perspectives, Parcours, Goût, Héritage, Futur, Systèmes, and Tendances, with parallel English sections and dedicated News desks for tech, Senegal, Africa, and the World. The platform uses artificial intelligence for content production assistance, including AI-narrated audio versions of written chronicles and AI-assisted music composition.

Technology

Sunulife is built on Next.js and deployed on Vercel, with iOS and Android native applications built using Capacitor. The platform implements bilingual routing at the URL level (/en/ and /fr/ path prefixes), server-side rendering with Incremental Static Regeneration, and a Progressive Web App service worker for offline reading.
