Companies often mistake loud confidence for competence, rewarding talkative employees while penalizing quieter high performers and those from marginalized backgrounds. This bias, driven by insecure leadership and vague "fit" criteria, alienates talent and hides risks. Fixing it requires evidence-based evaluations and independent oversight so merit drives advancement.

Many companies frequently reward talkative employees over those who actually produce results, confusing loud confidence with genuine competence. This flawed promotion cycle often stems from insecure leadership, where decision-makers favor non-threatening colleagues who validate them instead of challenging their choices. Furthermore, employees from marginalized backgrounds frequently face systemic bias, as their unique cultural traits or direct communication styles are unfairly penalized under vague criteria like "fit." Consequently, this dynamic alienates high-performing achievers, hides critical organizational risks, and damages overall workplace integrity. To combat this issue, institutions must implement strict accountability measures, such as evidence-based evaluations and independent oversight, to ensure true merit dictates career advancement.
